About
I’m Lawrence, and I build things.
I grew up in Cameroon and started building things because there weren’t many digital solutions around. In 2011, I noticed local businesses had no way for people to find them online, so I built the first business directory in Cameroon. We ended up pioneering a lot of firsts - first student hostel directory, first SMS marketing directory, first SMS marketing SaaS. It grew to thousands of businesses. It was messy and I learned a lot.
I spent a few years at Infosys consulting and leading teams that modernize legacy systems for Fortune 100 companies. The problems are different but the approach is the same - get presented with a problem, work with the team to solve it.
I’ve worked on everything from university communication platforms in Africa to retirement plan systems for Fortune 100 companies. The tools change (started with PHP, now mostly AWS, React, Angular), but I still get excited about solving problems using technology as a means to an end.
Currently based in Baltimore. Took my first real break in years after getting burned out, used the time to finish my MBA and experiment with AI. ‘Your fastest path to yourself is unemployment’ - and that turned out to be true. Something magical happens when you step back - you see where tech and humanity are heading. Now prepping for my next full-time role.
When I’m not building something, I put my thoughts on new ideas, think about how things work, spend time with my family, go outside, walk the park. I read about everything that catches my eye, not just technical stuff. This site is where I put my thoughts and track what I’m working on.
I wrote a short note on how these pieces get written.
